RATING AND VALUATION

The Rating Lists (Valuation Date) Order 1998

  Made 20th January 1998 
  Laid before Parliament 28th January 1998 
  Coming into force 18th February 1998 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by paragraph 2(3)(b) of Schedule 6 to the Local Government Finance Act 1988[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement
     1. This Order may be cited as the Rating Lists (Valuation Date) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 18th February 1998.

Valuation date
    
2. 1st April 1998 is specified under paragraph 2(3)(b) of Schedule 6 (valuation for non-domestic rating) to the Local Government Finance Act 1988 as the day by reference to which the rateable values of non-domestic hereditaments are to be determined for the purposes of the local and central non-domestic rating lists which are to be compiled for England and Wales on 1st April 2000.

Revocation
    
3. The Rating Lists (Valuation Date) Order 1992[2] is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


Non-domestic rating lists for the purposes of Part III of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 are, by virtue of sections 41(2) and 52(2) of the Act to be compiled on 1st April in every fifth year after 1990. Article 2 of this Order provides for 1st April 1998 to be the day by reference to which valuations of non-domestic hereditaments are to be determined for the purposes of the lists to be compiled for England and Wales on 1st April 2000.

Article 3 revokes the Rating Lists (Valuation Date) Order 1992.
