The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 3(3) and (4) of the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997[1], hereby makes the following Order: 1. This Order may be cited as the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 (Commencement) Order 1997. 2. In this Order "the 1997 (No. 2) Act" means the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997. 3. The provisions of the 1997 (No. 2) Act specified in Part I of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 17th December 1997, save that:
(b) subsection (7) of section 2 shall come into force on that date to the extent only that it relates to the repeals listed in the said Part I.

Subject to article 5 below the provisions of the 1997 (No. 2) Act specified in Part II of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st February 1998.
(ii) a permit issued under section 7 of the Firearms Act 1968[2], or
(b) the possession, purchase, acquisition, sale or transfer of a small-calibre pistol by a registered firearms dealer.
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order brings into force the provisions of the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997. Article 3 brings the provisions specified in Part I of the Schedule into force on 17th December 1997, subject to the savings indicated in paragraph (a) and (b) of that article. Article 4 brings the provisions specified in Part II of the Schedule into force on 1st February 1998. However those provisions do not have effect until 1st March 1998 in the case of certain certificate or permit holders and registered firearms dealers. Notes: [1] 1997 c.64.back
