The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 57(1), (2) and (3) of, and Schedule 2A to, the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Vehicle Excise Duty (Immobilisation, Removal and Disposal of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 2nd February 1998. Preliminary 2. The Vehicle Excise Duty (Immobilisation, Removal and Disposal of Vehicles) Regulations[2] shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations. Amendment of regulation 2 (Interpretation) 3. In regulation 2(1) -
(b) in relation to Wales, a county council or county borough council; (c) in relation to Northern Ireland, a district council;".
(b) for the definition of "public service vehicle" there shall be substituted -
(b) in relation to Northern Ireland has the meaning given by Article 2(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981[4];".
Amendment of regulation 4 (Disapplication of the Regulations) (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Vehicle Excise Duty (Immobilisation, Removal and Disposal of Vehicles) Regulations 1997 so that they now apply to Northern Ireland and make a clarifying amendment to regulation 5.
