In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 1(4) and 8(4) of the Nursery Education and Grant-Maintained Schools Act 1996[1], the Secretary of State for Wales hereby makes the following Regulations:- Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Nursery Education (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 29 August 1997. Amendment of Regulations 2. - (1) The Nursery Education Regulations 1996[2] shall be amended as follows. (2) Regulation 4 shall be amended by the insertion at the end of the definition of "unit amount" in paragraph (1) of the words "(otherwise than under regulation 4A)", and by the insertion after paragraph (1), of the following paragraph, namely-
(3) There shall be inserted after regulation 4 the following regulation-
(2) The amount of grant made to a local authority under this regulation shall be obtained by deducting from the amount specified by the Secretary of State, in relation to that authority, for the purpose of determining under this regulation the amount of grant to be made to them, the aggregate amount of grant made to the authority under regulation 4 in relation to that authority.".
(This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Nursery Education Regulations 1996 by inserting a new regulation 4A which provides for the method of determining grant to local authorities in Wales in respect of nursery education provided by them during the period 1st September 1997 to 31st March 1998, and amending regulation 4 so that that regulation ceases to apply in relation to nursery education provided by such local authorities after 31st August 1997.
