Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament under section 77(2) of the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994[1]; Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 69 of that Act, hereby makes the following Order: Title and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Contracting Out (Metropolitan Police and Civil Staffs Pensions) Order 1997 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made. Contracting out of functions 2. - (1) Functions conferred on the Secretary of State, as the police authority for the metropolitan police district, by section 8A of the Police Pensions Act 1976[2] or by any regulations made under section 1 or 8A of that Act may be exercised by, or by the employees of, such person (if any) as may be authorised in that behalf by the Secretary of State. (2) Functions conferred on the Secretary of State by section 15(2)(a) of the Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1967[3] (superannuation of metropolitan civil staffs) or by provisions (being the principal civil service pension scheme and enactments and instruments relating to civil service pensions) having effect for the purposes of those functions by virtue of section 15(2)(b) of that Act may be exercised by, or by the employees of, such person (if any) as may be authorised in that behalf by the Secretary of State.
