BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) Order 1997

  Made 15th January 1997 
  Laid before Parliament 20th January 1997 
  Coming into force 10th February 1997 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

     1 .  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 10th February 1997.

    (2) This Order extends to Scotland only.

    
2 . Paragraph 20(1) (grant or renewal of permit or licence) of Schedule 1 (bookmakers' permits, betting agency permits and betting office licences) to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[2] shall be amended by the substitution, for sub-sub-paragraphs (a) to (e), of the following sub-sub-paragraphs:

      " (a) in the case of the grant of a bookmaker's permit, £160;

      (b) in the case of the grant of a betting agency permit, £160;

      (c) in the case of the grant of a betting office licence, £125;

      (d) in the case of the renewal of a bookmaker's permit or betting agency permit, £20;

      (e) in the case of the renewal of a betting office licence, £25;".

     3 . The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (Scotland) (No 2) Order 1991[3] is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order, which is made under paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963, increases, for Scotland, the various fees prescribed in paragraph 20(1) of that Schedule.

The fees were formerly: £133 for the grant of a bookmaker's permit; £133 for the grant of a betting agency permit; £106 for the grant of a betting office licence; £16 for the renewal of a bookmaker's or betting agency permit; and £20 for the renewal of a betting office licence.
