In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order: 1 . - (1) This Order may be cited as the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 10th February 1997. (2) This Order shall not extend to Scotland. 2 . Paragraph 20(1) (grant or renewal of permit or licence) of Schedule 1 (bookmaker's permits, betting agency permits and betting office licences) to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963[2] shall be amended by the substitution, for paragraph (a) to (e) of the following paragraphs:
(b) in the case of the grant of a betting agency permit, £160; (c) in the case of the grant of a betting office licence, £125; (d) in the case of the renewal of a bookmaker's permit or betting agency permit, £20; (e) in the case of the renewal of a betting office licence, £25;".

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) (No. 2) Order 1991[3] is hereby revoked. (This note is not part of the Order) This Order increases certain fees payable in England and Wales to the appropriate authority under paragraph 20(1) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963. The fees for the grant of a bookmaker's permit (paragraph 20(1)(a)) and for the grant of a betting agency permit (paragraph 20(1)(b)) are increased from £133 to £160, and the fee for the grant of a betting office licence is increased from £106 to £125 (paragraph 20(1)(c)). The fee for renewal of a bookmaker's permit or betting agency permit is increased from £16 to £20 (paragraph 20(1)(d)) and the fee for the renewal of a betting office licence is increased from £20 to £25 (paragraph 20(1)(e)).
