BROADCASTING

The Broadcasting (Channel 3 Transmission and Shared Distribution Costs) Order 1996

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 66(3) of the Broadcasting Act 1990^[1], hereby makes the following Order:

    1.    This Order may be cited as the Broadcasting (Channel 3 Transmission and Shared Distribution Costs) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 27th December 1996.

    2.    The period specified in the Broadcasting (Channel 3 Transmission and Shared Distribution Costs) Order 1991^[2] during which—
 (a) all Channel 3 services are required to be broadcast for general reception by a single person under arrangements made with him by the persons licensed to provide those services; and
 (b) all persons licensed to provide Channel 3 services are required to share the costs incurred in respect of the distribution of those services (taken as a whole) in such manner as may be approved by her,
shall be extended by a period of six years so as to end on 31st December 2002.

This Order extends by six years the period during which all Channel 3 services must be broadcast by a single person, which is also that during which all Channel 3 licensees must share the distribution costs of those services in such manner as may be approved by the Secretary of State.
