HOUSING, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Housing Act 1996 (Commencement No. 5 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996

Made 25th November 1996

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 232(3) and (4) of the Housing Act 1996[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation and interpretation
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Housing Act 1996 (Commencement No. 5 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996.

        (2)  In this Order, "the Act" means the Housing Act 1996.
    Commencement
        2.    Subject to the transitional provision in paragraph 1 of the Schedule to this Order, the following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 20th January 1997—
      sections 175 and 176,
      section 177 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 178 to 181,
      section 183 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      section 184,
      section 185 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 186 to 188,
      section 189 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 190 to 193,
      section 194 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 195 to 197,
      section 198 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      section 199 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 200 to 202,
      section 203 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 204 to 206,
      section 207 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 208 and 209,
      section 210 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      sections 211 to 214,
      section 216, and
      section 227 in so far as it relates to Part VIII of Schedule 19.

        3.    Subject to the transitional provision in paragraph 2 of the Schedule to this Order, the following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 1st April 1997—
      section 159,
      sections 160 to 163 to the extent that they are not already in force,
      section 164,
      section 165 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      section 166,
      section 167 to the extent that it is not already in force,
      section 168,
      sections 170 and 171,
      section 173, and
      section 227 in so far as it relates to Part VII of Schedule 19.
