REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE

The European Parliamentary Elections (Day of By-election) (Merseyside West Constituency) Order 1996

Made 22nd October 1996
Laid before Parliament 30th October 1996
Coming into force 1st November 1996

    Whereas on 5th September 1996 the Secretary of State was notified of the vacancy of the seat of the representative in the European Parliament for the constituency of Merseyside West by that Parliament under Article 12(2) of the Act concerning the election of the representatives of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage annexed to the decision of the Council of the European Communities dated 20th September 1976;[1]
    Now, therefore, in pursuance of paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1978<,fn num="f002"> the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the European Parliamentary Elections (Day of By-election) (Merseyside West Constituency) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 1st November 1996.
        2.    The by-election to fill the vacancy in the European Parliamentary constituency of Merseyside West shall be held on 12th December 1996.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order appoints 12th December 1996 as the day on which the by-election to fill the vacancy in the European Parliamentary constituency of Merseyside West shall be held.
