ROAD TRAFFIC

The Transport Act 1982 (Commencement No. 7 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 76 of the Transport Act 1982^[1], hereby makes the following Order:—

    1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Transport Act 1982 (Commencement No. 7 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996.

    (2)  For the purposes of this Order, the appointed day is 1st August 1996.

    2.    Subject to article 3 below, section 18 of the Transport Act 1982^[2] shall come into force on the appointed day.

    3.    During the period beginning with the appointed day and ending immediately before the day on which section 8 of the Transport Act 1982 comes into force, section 63A(3)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1988^[3] shall have effect with the omission of the words "or by the prescribed testing authority".

This Order brings into force on 1st August 1996 section 18 of the Transport Act 1982. Section 18 inserts a new section 63A into the Road Traffic Act 1988 which makes provision for the alteration of plated weights for goods vehicles without examination.

Transitional modifications are made to section 63A of the 1988 Act.

The following provisions of the Transport Act 1982 have been brought into force by Commencement Orders before the date of this Order.
