EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Education (Funding for Teacher Training) Designation Order 1996

Made 10th July 1996
Laid before Parliament 19th July 1996
Coming into force 9th August 1996

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 4(2) and (3) and 23(2) of the Education Act 1994[1], hereby makes the following Order:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Education (Funding for Teacher Training) Designation Order 1996 and shall come into force on 9th August 1996.
        2.    The following institutions are hereby designated as institutions eligible for funding under Part 1 of the Education Act 1994:—
       (a) The Centre for British Teachers, a company limited by guarantee;
       (b) The Maryvale Institute, a charitable trust established under the authority of the Archbishop of Birmingham; and
       (c) The Urban Learning Foundation, a company limited by guarantee.
        3.    References in Part 1 of the Education Act 1994 to the governing body of an institution shall, in relation to the Centre for British Teachers and the Urban Learning Foundation, be read as references to those companies.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order designates the Centre for British Teachers, the Maryvale Institute and the Urban Learning Foundation ("the Institutions") as institutions eligible for funding under Part 1 of the Education Act 1994.
    The Centre for British Teachers is a company limited by guarantee, not having a share capital, incorporated on 31st December 1965 under the number 867944.
    The Maryvale Institute is a charitable trust established under the authority of the Archbishop of Birmingham, being part of the Birmingham Diocesan Trust under the registered Charity Number 234216.
    The Urban Learning Foundation is a company limited by guarantee, not having a share capital, incorporated on 4th May 1984 under the number 1814107.
    As a result of this Order, the Teacher Training Agency may make grants, loans or other payments in respect of expenditure incurred or to be incurred by the Institutions for the purposes of the provision of teacher training and the provision of facilities, and the carrying on of other activities which the Institutions consider it necessary or desirable to provide or carry on for the purpose of or in connection with the provision of teacher training.
