MEDICAL PROFESSION The Medical (Professional Performance) Act 1995 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1996
At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 26th day of June 1996 Present, The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
1.(1) This Order may be cited as the Medical (Professional Performance) Act 1995 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1996. (2) In this Order
2.(1) 1st September 1996 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act
(2) 1st September 1996 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act, for the purpose of enabling the GMC in accordance with rules to determine the membership of its statutory committees[4] as from 1st January 1997
(3) 1st January 1997 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Act

Certain provisions are brought into force on 1st September 1996, first so as to provide that rules made by the GMC shall not come into force until they have been approved by the Privy Council, and secondly for the limited purpose of enabling the GMC to determine, in accordance with rules, who will be the members of its statutory committees from 1st January 1997. The provisions brought into force on 1st January 1997 provide for the establishment, in accordance with rules, of two new Committees of the GMC, namely the Assessment Referral Committee and the Committee on Professional Performance. (This note is not part of the Order) The following provisions of the Act have been brought into force by commencement order made before the date of this Order:
