SHERIFF COURT, SCOTLAND

The Sheriff Court Districts (Alteration of Boundaries) Order 1996

Made 29th March 1996
Coming into force 1st April 1996

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 43(1) of the Sheriff Courts (Scotland) Act 1971[1] and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation, commencement and interpretation
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Sheriff Court Districts (Alteration of Boundaries) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 1st April 1996.

        (2)  In column 3 of Schedule 1 to this Order—
      "area" means the area of a council constituted under section 2 of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994[2];
      "ward" means an electoral ward specified by the Secretary of State in a direction made under paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 2 to the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 for the purposes of the elections held under section 5(2) of that Act.

    Alteration of boundaries of sheriff court districts
        2.—(1)  On 1st April 1996, the boundaries of the sheriff court districts of—
       (a) Airdrie;
       (b) Arbroath;
       (c) Dundee;
       (d) Forfar;
       (e) Glasgow and Strathkelvin; and
       (f) Perth,
    shall be altered, but all other sheriff court districts existing immediately before that date shall continue in existence without alteration of their boundaries.

        (2)  In consequence of paragraph (1) above—
       (a) the six sheriffdoms of Scotland (as specified in column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order) shall continue to be divided into the sheriff court districts specified in column 2 of that Schedule;
       (b) each of those districts shall on and after 1st April 1996 comprise the area specified in column 3 of that Schedule opposite the name of the district in question; and
       (c) sheriff courts shall continue to be held in each sheriff court district at the place specified in column 4 of that Schedule opposite the name of the district in question.

    Revocations
        3.    The Orders specified in Schedule 2 to this Order are hereby revoked.
