AGRICULTURE

The Potato Marketing Scheme (Commencement of Revocation Period) Order 1996

Coming into force 17th February 1996

    The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, being of the opinion that it is necessary or in the public interest that the Potato Marketing Scheme[1] should be brought to an end, and having consulted on a proposal to bring the Potato Marketing Scheme to an end with such persons as appear to them to be representative of the interests of producers, purchasers, retailers and consumers of potatoes as they consider appropriate, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 25 of the Agriculture Act 1993[2], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order, a draft of which has been laid before, and approved by a resolution of, each House of Parliament:—
    Title and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as The Potato Marketing Scheme (Commencement of Revocation Period) Order 1996 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.
    Commencement of revocation period
        2.    1st July 1996 is hereby specified as the first day of the period mentioned in section 26(2) of the Agriculture Act 1993 (which provides that revocation of the Potato Marketing Scheme under section 26(1) of the Agriculture Act will come into force at the end of the period of 12 months beginning with the day so specified).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    The Agriculture Act 1993 revokes the Potato Marketing Scheme, and provides for such revocation to come into force at the end of a 12 month period beginning with a day specified by order. This Order specifies the commencement date of the 12 month period prior to revocation.
    No Compliance Cost Assessment in relation to this Order has been prepared.
