CONTAMINATION OF FOOD

The Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Radioactivity in Sheep) (Wales) (Partial Revocation) Order 1996

Made 10th January 1996
Laid before Parliament 12th January 1996
Coming into force 17th January 1996

    Whereas the Secretary of State was of the opinion, as mentioned in section 1(1)(a) of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985[1], that there had been or might have been circumstances which were likely to create a hazard to human health through human consumption of food;
    And whereas the Secretary of State was of the opinion, as mentioned in section 1(1)(b) of the said Act, that in consequence of the said circumstances, food which was, or might have been in the future derived from sheep in the areas described in Schedule 1 to the Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Radioactivity in Sheep) (Wales) Order 1991[2], was, or might have been, or might have become, unsuitable for human consumption;
    And whereas the Secretary of State is now of the opinion that food which is derived, or may in the future be derived from sheep in the area described in Part I of the Schedule to this Order is no longer unsuitable for human consumption in consequence of the said circumstances;
    Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1(1) and (2) and section 24(1) and (3) of the said Act[3], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—
    Title and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Radioactivity in Sheep) (Wales) (Partial Revocation) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 17th January 1996.
    Partial Revocation
        2.—(1)  The Food Protection (Emergency Prohibitions) (Radioactivity in Sheep) (Wales) Order 1991 is hereby revoked with respect to that part of the designated area numbered 2 of Schedule 1 to that Order which is set out in Part I of the Schedule to this Order.

        (2)  In consequence of that revocation that Order shall be amended by substituting for paragraph 2 of Schedule 1 the paragraph set out in Part II of the Schedule to this Order.
