The Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (Public Bodies)(Meat Hygiene) Order 1995

Made 9th October 1995
Laid before Parliament 18th October 1995
Coming into force 8th November 1995

    The Secretary of State for the Environment and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly in relation to England and Wales in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) and (6) of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970[1], and the Secretary of State for Scotland, in exercise of the powers so conferred in relation to Scotland, hereby make the following Order:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (Public Bodies) (Meat Hygiene) Order 1995 and shall come into force on 8th November 1995.
    Designation of public body
        2.    The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in relation to England, and the Secretary of State in relation to Scotland and Wales, being persons appearing to the Secretary of State to be exercising functions of a public nature, shall be public bodies for the purposes of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970 to the extent that the functions exercised by those persons relate to inspections of meat for the purposes of hygiene or of animals for the purposes of welfare.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    Article 2 of this Order designates the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in relation to England and the Secretary of State in relation to Scotland and Wales under the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970.
    The effect of the designation is to allow local authorities to provide goods and services to the Ministers in connection with the exercise of the Ministers' functions in relation to inspections of meat or animals.
