PENSIONS

The Pensions for Dependants of the Prime Minister or Speaker (Designated Provisions) Regulations 1995

The Leader of the House of Commons, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 27(2) and (2A) of the Parliamentary and other Pensions Act 1972^[1] hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and Commencement
    1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Pensions for Dependants of the Prime Minister or Speaker (Designated Provisions) Regulations 1995.

Designated provisions
    2.    Regulation K1 (in so far as it applies regulations K2 and K3) and regulations K2 and K3 of the Parliamentary Pensions (Consolidation and Amendment) Regulations 1993^[2] are designated for the purposes of section 27 of the Parliamentary and other Pensions Act 1972.

Revocation
    3.    The Pensions for Dependants of the Prime Minister or Speaker (Designated Provisions) Regulations 1992^[3] are hereby revoked.

These Regulations make provision with respect to the payment of pensions to widows or widowers or for the benefit of children of deceased Prime Ministers or Speakers of the House of Commons.

Section 27 of the Parliamentary and other Pensions Act 1972 (c. 48) provides the basis for the payment from the Consolidated fund of pensions to widows or widowers or for the benefit of children of deceased Prime Ministers or Speakers: the section provides for designated provisions of the Parliamentary pension scheme to have effect as if the Prime Minister or Speaker concerned had at the time of his death been entitled in respect of service as a Member of the House of Commons to receive a pension under the Parliamentary pension scheme.

These Regulations designate for the purposes of section 27 those provisions of the Parliamentary pension scheme contained in regulations K1, K2 and K3 of the Parliamentary Pensions (Consolidation and Amendment) Regulations 1993 which are to apply in relation to the widows, widowers or children of deceased Prime Ministers and Speakers.
