NATIONAL LOTTERY

The National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (Amendment of Section 23) Order 1994

Laid before Parliament 20th May 1994
Coming into force 13th June 1994

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 29 of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993[421], hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (Amendment of Section 23) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 13th June 1994.
    Amendment of section 23(1) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993
        2.    Section 23(1) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 (distributing bodies for sums allocated for expenditure on or connected with the arts) shall be amended by substituting, for paragraphs (a) and (b), the following paragraphs—
        "(a) as to 83.3 per cent., for distribution by the Arts Council of England,
        (b) as to 8.9 per cent., for distribution by the Scottish Arts Council,
        (c) as to 5 per cent., for distribution by the Arts Council of Wales, and
        (d) as to 2.8 per cent., for distribution by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland 1994." .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order amends section 23(1) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993 by substituting the Arts Council of England, the Scottish Arts Council and the Arts Council of Wales for the Arts Council of Great Britain. The Order specifies the percentages of the sums paid into the National Lottery Distribution Fund, allocated for expenditure on or connected with the arts, which are to be held in the Distribution Fund for distribution by these bodies. The sum of the percentages equals the percentage which was formerly to be held for distribution by the Arts Council of Great Britain. The Order further amends section 23(1) by substituting the Arts Council of Northern Ireland 1994 for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
    The Arts Council of England and the Arts Council of Wales were incorporated by Royal Charters granted on 30th March 1994. The Scottish Arts Council was incorporated by Royal Charter granted on 1st April 1994. The Arts Council of Northern Ireland 1994 is a company limited by guarantee (company no. NI 28253).
