MARRIAGE

The Marriage Act 1994 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1994

Made 7th December 1994

    In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3(2) of the Marriage Act 1994[1], I hereby make the following Order:
    Citation
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Marriage Act 1994 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1994.
    Appointed day
        2.    1st January 1995 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Marriage Act 1994—
       (a) section 2(1) (registration districts in which marriages may be solemnised), so far as it inserts subsection (2A) in section 35 of the Marriage Act 1949[2];
       (b) section 2(2) (superintendent registrar not normally to issue licences for marriages in registered buildings outside his district); and
       (c) section 3 (short title and commencement).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order brings into force on 1st January 1995 those provisions of the Marriage Act 1994 which amend the Marriage Act 1949 to permit marriage in a register office outside the couple's district(s) of residence.
