The Academic Awards and Distinctions (The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) (Scotland) Order of Council 1994

Made 21st April 1994
Laid before Parliament 21st April 1994
Coming in to force 13th May 1994

    At the Council Chamber, Whitehall By the Lords of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council Their Lordships, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Them by sections 48(1) and 60 of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992[1] and all other powers enabling Them in that behalf, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
    Citation, commencement and interpretation
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited' as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) (Scotland) Order of Council 1994 and shall come into force on 13th May 1994.

        (2)  In this Order—
      "the Act" means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992 and "the Institution" means The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

    Competence to grant academic awards and distinctions
        2.—(1)  The Institution is hereby specified as competent to grant all such awards and distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of subsections (2) and (3) of section 48 of the Act other than in respect of completion of a programme of supervised research.

        (2)  The date specified for the purpose of subsection (2)(a) of section 48 of the Act is 1st September 1994.

        (3)  In the event that the name of the Institution is changed under section 49 of the Act, or under any other power, the competence to grant any of the awards and distinctions specified in paragraph (1) above shall continue to apply to the Institution as renamed.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order specifies The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards and distinctions except where the award or distinction, of whatever description, is made on completion of a programme of supervised research.
    Article 2(2) provides that the Institution may grant awards or distinctions in respect of courses of study completed on or after 1st September 1994.
