AGRICULTURE

The Importation of Bovine Semen (Amendment) Regulations 1993

Made 23rd July 1993
Laid before Parliament 4th August 1993
Coming into force 25th August 1993

    The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in relation to England, the Secretary of State for Scotland in relation to Scotland, and the Secretary of State for Wales in relation to Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 10(1) and (2) of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 1984[1], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:
    Title and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Importation of Bovine Semen (Amendment) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 25th August 1993.
    Amendment to the Importation of Bovine Semen Regulations 1984
        2.    For Regulation 3(2) of the Importation of Bovine Semen Regulations 1984[2] there shall be substituted the following:
      "  (2)  A licence may be either general or specific, and in the case of a general licence shall be issued by the publication in such manner as appears to the appropriate Minister to be sufficient to bring it to the notice of those persons likely to be affected by it.

          (3)  The appropriate Minister may vary, revoke or suspend a licence—
        (a) in the case of a general licence by a notice published, so far as practicable, in the same manner as the licence, and
        (b) in the case of a specific licence by a notice in writing served on the person to whom the licence was issued." .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend the Importation of Bovine Semen Regulations 1984 (S.I. 1984/1325) to make provision for the issue of general as well as specific licences for the importation into Great Britain of bovine semen.
