EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order dissolves the Area Boards (that is the Boards established under section 1 of the Electricity Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo.6 c.54)). The property, rights and liabilities of those Boards were transferred to nominated successor companies (see S.I. 1990/224) on 31st March 1990 under section 65 of the Electricity Act 1989. Section 84 of that Act provides for the Area Boards to continue in existence after the transfer date, and Schedule 17 to the Act provides for certain duties to be carried out as necessary by the Area Boards. Those duties, so far as necessary and as applying to the Area Boards, have been discharged.
