ROAD TRAFFIC

The Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1993

The Secretary of State for Transport, being a Minister designated^[1] for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972^[2] in relation to the regulation of the type, description, construction or equipment of vehicles, and of components of vehicles, and in particular any vehicle type approval scheme, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

    1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 1st October 1993.

    2.—(1)  Schedule 1 to the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1992^[3] shall be amended as follows.

    (2)  In item 2—
 (a) in the third column, there shall be added—
"93/59/EEC" ;

 (b) in the fourth column, there shall be added—
"L186, 28.7.93, p.21" .

These Regulations amend Schedule 1 to the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1992. The 1992 Regulations implemented Council Directive 92/53/EEC which relates to the type approval of motor vehicles and their trailers.

These Regulations are made in consequence of Council Directive 93/59/EEC which further amends Council Directive 70/220/EEC relating to measures to be taken against air pollution by emissions from motor vehicles.

Copies of the EEC Directives which are relevant to these Regulations can be obtained from Her Majesty's Stationery Office. The details of the Directives are set out below.
