CIVIL AVIATION

The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (High Security Prisons) (Amendment No. 3) Regulations 1993

Coming into force 25th August 1993

    Whereas the Secretary of State for Transport, for a reason affecting the public interest, deems it necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in airspace in the vicinity of certain high security prisons specified in the Schedule to the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (High Security Prisons) Regulations 1989[1], as amended by this Instrument:
    Now, therefore, the Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by article 74 of the Air Navigation Order 1989[2] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (High Security Prisons) (Amendment No. 3) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 25th August 1993.
        2.    The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (High Security Prisons) Regulations 1989 shall be amended as follows:—
       (a) to the end of regulation 2(2) there shall be added—
        "or
          (c) in relation to the high security prison at Belmarsh—
            (i) flight within the area bounded by a straight line joining N5130.29 E0005.58 to N5129.68 E0004.95 and thence in a northerly direction by an arc of a circle having a radius of 0.5 nautical miles and centred on N5129.82 E0005.78 to N5130.29 E0005.58; or
            (ii) flight by any helicopter flying in accordance with the Instrument Flight Rules and in accordance with instructions given by the air traffic control unit at London City Airport."
       (b) to the end of the Schedule there shall be added the following entry—
        Belmarsh 0.5 N5129.82 E0005.78 2000

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations further amend the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (High Security Prisons) Regulations 1989 by imposing restrictions on helicopters flying in specified airspace around the high security prison at Belmarsh.
