SPORTS GROUNDS AND SPORTING EVENTS

The Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1993

Made 18th August 1993
Laid before Parliament 24th August 1993
Coming into force 15th September 1993

    The Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 1(1) and 18(2) of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975[1], after such consultation as is mentioned in section 18(4) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 15th September 1993.
        2.    The sports grounds at—
       (a) The Den, Bolina Road, London SE16,
       (b) Bescot Stadium, Bescot Crescent, Walsall, and
       (c) Adams Park, Hillbottom Road, Sands, High Wycombe
    (being sports grounds each of which in the opinion of the Secretary of State has accommodation for more than 10,000 spectators) are hereby designated as sports grounds requiring safety certificates under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
        3.    In the Schedule to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1979[2], the entry in respect of Bristol Stadium, Eastville, Bristol shall be omitted.
        4.    In the Schedule to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Association Football Grounds) (Designation) Order 1985[3], the entries in respect of—
       (a) The Den, Cold Blow Lane, London, and
       (b) Fellows Park, Walsall
    shall be omitted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    Article 2 of this Order designates the sports grounds specified therein as sports grounds requiring safety certificates under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975 as amended by Schedule 2 to the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.
    Articles 3 and 4 of this Order vary the orders referred to therein by omitting entries which are no longer sports grounds.
