ROAD TRAFFIC

The Road Traffic Offenders (Prescribed Devices) Order 1993

Made 7th July 1993
Laid before Parliament 14th July 1993
Coming into force 9th August 1993

    In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 20(9) of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988[1], I hereby make the following Order:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Offenders (Prescribed Devices) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 9th August 1993.
        2.    The following devices are prescribed devices for the purposes of section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988—
       (a) a device designed or adapted for recording a measurement of the speed of motor vehicles activated by means of sensors or cables on or near the surface of the highway;
       (b) a device designed or adapted for recording a measurement of the speed of motor vehicles activated by means of a light beam or beams.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order prescribes two types of speed detection devices for the purposes of section 20 of the Road Trafffic Offenders Act 1988, as substituted by section 23 of the Road Traffic Act 1991. The first is a device activated by a vehicle passing over sensors or cables on the road; the second is a device activated by a vehicle passing through light beams.
