The Education (Student Loans) (Amendment) Regulations 1993

Laid before Parliament 2nd July 1993
Coming into force 1st August 1993

    In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Education (Student Loans) Act 1990[1], the Secretary of State for Education hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Student Loans) (Amendment) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 1st August 1993.
    Amendment of 1993 Regulations
        2.    For regulation 11(6) of the Education (Student Loans) Regulations 1993[2] there is substituted—
      "  (6)  In paragraph (5) "disability-related benefits" means—
        (a) the benefits or allowances payable pursuant to the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992[3] known as invalidity benefit[4], severe disablement allowance[5], disability living allowance[6] and industrial injuries benefit[7];
        (b) disability premium and severe disability premium payable pursuant to the Income Support (General) Regulations 1987[8]; and
        (c) disability working allowance payable under sections 123(1)(c) and 129 of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992." .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations substitute a revised paragraph (6) in regulation 11 of the Education (Student Loans) Regulations 1993 to correct a defect in the drafting of that paragraph. The revised paragraph substitutes for references to the Social Security Act 1975 references to the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992, a consolidating Act which replaces the 1975 Act.
