The Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College) (Scotland) Order of Council 1993

Laid before Parliament 19th February 1993
Coming into force 12th March 1993

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 9th day of February 1993

By the Lords of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council

    Their Lordships, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Them by sections 48(1) and 60 of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992([1]) and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, are pleased to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
    Citation, commencement and interpretation
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College)(Scotland) Order of Council 1993 and shall come into force on 12th March 1993.

        (2)  In this Order "the Act" means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992 and "the Institution" means Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh.
    Competence to grant academic awards and distinctions
        2.—(1)  The Institution is hereby specified as competent to grant all such degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards and distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of subsections (2) and (3) of section 48 of the Act other than in respect of completion of a programme of supervised research.

        (2)  In the event that the name of the Institution is changed under section 49 of the Act, or under any other power, the competence to grant any of the awards and distinctions specified in paragraph (1) above shall continue to apply to the Institution as re-named.
    Revocation
        3.    The Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College)(Scotland)Order of Council 1992[2] is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    The Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College) (Scotland) Order of Council 1992 specified Queen Margaret College as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions with the specific exception of post-graduate degrees. This Order replaces the earlier order and extends the relevant powers to cover post-graduate awards for taught courses. Post graduate research degrees continue to be excluded. Other academic awards and distinctions granted on completion of programmes of supervised research are also now excluded.
