LOCAL GOVERNMENT, SCOTLAND

The Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1993

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 8(1) and 15(6) of the Local Government Act 1988([1]) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation, commencement and interpretation
        1.—(1)  These Regulations may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 28th February 1993.

        (2)  In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" means the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Regulations 1988([2]).
    Application
        2.    These Regulations apply only to work to be carried out in Scotland.
    Amendment of the principal Regulations
        3.    Insofar as Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations applies to a development corporation established for the purposes of a new town, in column (2) (Minimum period years) of Part II (Specified Periods) of that Schedule there shall be substituted, opposite each of the seven entries listed under column (1) (Activity) of the said Part II of the said Schedule, the number"1" .

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    The Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Regulations 1988 ("the principal Regulations") specify the minimum and maximum periods for which certain specified authorities may invite offers to carry out work in respect of seven listed activities which must be open to competition under Part I of the Local Government Act 1988.
    These Regulations reduce the minimum period for those listed activities to one year, but such reduction applies only to a specified authority which is a Development Corporation established for the purposes of a New Town.
