ROAD TRAFFIC The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No. 8) Regulations 1992
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No. 8) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 1st February 1993.
2. The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986[2] shall be further amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.
3. In regulation 39
4. In regulation 61(10B), sub-paragraph (g) shall be omitted.
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
Regulation 39 of the 1986 Regulations requires petrol tanks fitted to vehicles first used on or after the 1st July 1973 to be made of metal. The amendments exempt motor bicycles first used on or after 1st February 1993. Regulation 61(10A) of the 1986 Regulations imposes limits on the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon content of exhaust emissions from certain vehicles when the engines are idling. The provision applies only to vehicles with spark ignition engines. Previously, vehicles of Class V or VI within the meaning of the Motor Vehicles (Tests) Regulations 1981 (S.I. 1981/1694) were exempt from this requirement. The amendments remove this exemption. The vehicles affected are public service vehicles and other vehicles which are constructed or adapted to carry more than 12 passengers. Relevant amendments of the 1981 Regulations have been made by S.I. 1984/1126 and 1988/1894.
