MARRIAGE

The Marriage Fees (Scotland) Regulations 1992

Laid before Parliament 16th December 1992
Coming into force 1st April 1993

    The Registrar General, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 3(1), 19(2), 25 and 26 of the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and with the approval of the Secretary of State, hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Marriage Fees (Scotland) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993.
    Fees
        2.—(1)  The fee payable under section 3(1) of the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 to the district registrar by each person submitting a marriage notice shall be £10.00.

        (2)  The fee payable under section 19(2) of the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 to an authorised registrar before solemnisation of a civil marriage shall be £30.00.
    Revocation
        3.    The Marriage Fees (Scotland) Regulations 1991[2] are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations set out, with effect from 1st April 1993, the fees payable under sections 3(1) and 19(2) of the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977 (fees for the preliminaries to marriage and for the solemnisation of a civil marriage respectively). The fee under section 3(1) is increased from £8.00 to £10.00, and the fee under section 19(2) is increased from £17.00 to £30.00. The Marriage Fees (Scotland) Regulations 1991 are revoked.
