SUPREME COURT OF ENGLAND AND WALES COUNTY COURTS

The Civil Courts (Amendment No. 4) Order 1992

Coming into force
  as to all provisions except articles 3 and 4 1st January 1993
  articles 3 and 4 28th January 1993

    The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 99(1) of the Supreme Court Act 1981[1] and by section 2(1) of the County Courts Act 1984[2], hereby makes the following Order:—
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Civil Courts (Amendment No. 4) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 1st January 1993 except for articles 3 and 4 which shall come into force on 28th January 1993.
        2.—(1)  The holding of the Beverley, Gainsborough and Great Malvern County Courts shall be discontinued and Schedule 3 to the Civil Courts Order 1983[3] shall accordingly be amended by deleting the entries relating to those courts.

        (2)  The Bridlington and Kingston-upon-Hull County Courts[4] shall have jurisdiction in proceedings commenced in the Beverley County Court before this Order comes into force.

        (3)  The Lincoln County Court shall have jurisdiction in proceedings commenced in the Gainsborough County Court before this Order comes into force.

        (4)  The Worcester County Court shall have jurisdiction in proceedings commenced in the Great Malvern County Court before this Order comes into force.

        (5)  No process shall be invalid only because the holding of the court described therein by name has been discontinued by this Order.
        3.    A district registry of the High Court shall be established at Salford, which district shall be defined by reference to the district of the Salford County Court.
        4.    The Civil Courts Order 1983 shall be further amended as follows.

        (1)  In Schedule 1—
       (a) in the second column opposite the entry relating to the Manchester District Registry the word "Salford" shall be omitted;
       (b) after the entry relating to the St. Helens District Registry there shall be inserted in each column the word "Salford".

        (2)  In Schedule 3 the letters "D.R." shall be inserted in the first column beneath the entry relating to Salford.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order amends the Civil Courts Order 1983 so as to—
      (a) close the Beverley, Gainsborough and Great Malvern County Courts; the Bridlington, Kingston-upon-Hull, Lincoln and Worcester County Courts are given jurisdiction where proceedings have been commenced before the closures take effect (article 2);
      (b) to establish a district registry of the High Court at Salford (articles 3 and 4).
