EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Education (Teachers) (Amendment) Regulations 1992

Made 21st July 1992
Laid before Parliament 22nd July 1992
Coming into force 1st September 1992

    The Secretary of State for Education[1], in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 218(1)(c) and 232(5) of the Education Reform Act 1988[2], hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Teachers) (Amendment) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 1st September 1992.
    Interpretation
        2.    In these Regulations, "the principal Regulations " means the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1989[3].
    Amendment
        3.    Subject to regulation 4, the principal Regulations shall be amended by the omission of regulation 14, paragraphs 8 and 9(2) of Schedule 1 and Schedule 6.
    Transitional provision
        4.    In the case of a person who, on 1st September 1992, has commenced but not completed a period of probation under regulation 14 of and Schedule 6 to the principal Regulations, regulation 14 and Schedule 6 shall continue to have effect until all their provisions have been complied with.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations abolish the requirement for probation under the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1989 with a transitional provision for teachers serving probation on 1st September 1992 when these Regulations come into force. Paragraph 9(1) of Schedule 1 continues to apply to teachers who failed probation under the Schools Regulations 1959 or the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1982.
