BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1992

Made 12th March 1992
Laid before Parliament 13th March 1992
Coming into force 1st May 1992

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 20(3), 21(8) and 51(4) of the Gaming Act 1968[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1992, and shall come into force on 1st May 1992.

        (2)  This Order extends to Scotland only.
        2.    Section 20(3) of the Gaming Act 1968[2] (which specifies the maximum permitted aggregate winnings in respect of bingo played in one week simultaneously on different club premises) shall have effect with the substitution, for the reference to £4,500, of a reference to £5,000.
        3.    In section 21(2) of the Gaming Act 1968[3] (conditions on which gaming for prizes is permitted at licensed club premises) paragraphs (b) and (e) shall have effect as if, for the sum of £20 specified in each of those paragraphs, there were substituted the sum of £25.
        4.    Article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1991[4] is hereby revoked.
        5.    Article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) (Scotland) Order 1988[5] is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order extends to Scotland only. It increases from £4,500 to £5,000 the maximum aggregate sum permitted to be paid to players as winnings in respect of all "linked" games of bingo.
    It also increases the maximum amounts permitted—
      (a) to be taken by way of the sale of chances; and
      (b) as the aggregate amount or value of prizes,
    on any one determination of winners in gaming for prizes at licensed club premises under section 21 of the Gaming Act 1968.
