LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Revenue Support Grant (Specified Bodies) Regulations 1992

Made 17th January 1992
Laid before Parliament 21st January 1992
Coming into force 11th February 1992

    The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, after consultation with such representatives of local government as appear to them to beappropriate, in exercise of the power conferred on them by section 76(4) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988[1], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Revenue Support Grant (Specified Bodies) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 11th February 1992.
    Revocation
        2.    In relation to any financial year beginning on or after 1st April 1992, the Rate Support Grant (Specified Bodies) Regulations 1988[2], the Revenue Support Grant (Specified Bodies) Regulations 1989[3], and the Revenue Support Grant (Specified Bodies) Regulations 1990[4], are hereby revoked.
    Specified Bodies
        3.    The following bodies are hereby specified for the purposes of section 76(4) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988, namely:—
       (a) The Local Government Management Board;
       (b) The Fire Services Examinations Board;
       (c) The Local Authorities' Race Relations Information Exchange;
       (d) The National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales;
       (e) The Staff College;
       (f) The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education;
       (g) The Local Government International Bureau; and
       (h) The Local Authorities Co-ordinating Body on Trading Standards.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    Sections 78 and 79 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 provide for revenue support grant to be payable to any body which provides services for local authorities and which is specified by the Secretary of State in regulations.
    These Regulations specify bodies for this purpose. The previous Regulations are revoked and replaced by these Regulations in relation to financial years beginning on or after 1st April 1992. The Staff College was previously specified as The Further Education Staff College. The Fire Service College ceases to be a specified body.
