SOCIAL SERVICES, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (Functions) Regulations 1991

Made 2nd May 1991
Laid before Parliament 10th May 1991
Coming into force 3rd June 1991

    In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10(11)(a) of the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983[1] and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencment
        1.—(1)  These Regulations may be cited as the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (Functions) Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on3rd June 1991.
    Functions conferred on the Council
        2.    There are hereby conferred on the Council such functions in relation to social work other than relevant social work as are conferred on them by section 10 of the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983 in relation to relevant social work, including limitations as to the exercise of those functions which are equivalent to those provided for in relation to relevant social work by section 10(4), (8), (9) and (10) of that Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations confer on the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work such functions in relation to social work other than relevant social work as are conferred on them by section 10 of the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983 in relation to relevant social work."Relevant Social Work" is defined in section 10(16) of that Act as meaning social work required in connection with health, education or social services provided by local authorities (and equivalent authorities in Northern Ireland) or by voluntary organisations or social work required in connection with the probation service. The particular functions of the Central Council are set out in section 10 of the Act of 1983. They include promoting training, conducting examinations, carrying out research and making grants for training purposes.
