EDUCATION, ENGLAND AND WALES

The State Awards (State Bursaries for Adult Education) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 1991

The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3(c) and 4(2) and (3) of the Education Act 1962^[1] , hereby makes the following Regulations:—

    1.—(1)  These Regulations may be cited as the State Awards (State Bursaries for Adult Education) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on24th May 1991.

    (2)  The Regulations apply to persons ordinarily resident in Wales.

    2.    Schedule 2 to the State Awards (State Bursaries for Adult Education) (Wales) Regulations 1979^[2] shall be amended in accordance with these Regulations.

    3.    In paragraph 1(1) of that Schedule, after the definition of"relevant date" , there shall be inserted the following definition
""relevant territory" means the territory comprising the European Community and (as respects any period prior to the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany) the former German Democratic Republic;" .

    4.    In paragraphs 1(2), 3 and 5 of that Schedule there shall be substituted for the words"European Community" (wherever they appear), the words"relevant territory" .

These Regulations amend the State Awards (State Bursaries for Adult Education) (Wales) Regulations 1979 so that, for the purpose of determining eligibility for an award, residence in the former German Democratic Republic prior to the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany is treated as residence in the European Community.
