ANTARCTICA

The Antarctic Treaty (Specially Protected Areas) Order 1991

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by sections 7(2)(b) and 10(7) of the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967 ^[1], is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

    1.    This Order may be cited as the Antarctic Treaty (Specially Protected Areas) Order 1991 and shall come into force on 25th April 1991.

    2.    Specially Protected Area No. 11 (Cape Shirreff, Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands) shall cease to be designated as a Specially Protected Area for the purposes of the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967 and shall be omitted from the Schedule to the Antarctic Treaty (Specially Protected Areas) Order 1968^[2] .

This Order terminates the designation of an area in the Antarctic as a Specially Protected Area for the purposes of the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967. The area is to be protected in future as a Site of Special Scientific Interest by administrative arrangements made pursuant to Recommendation XV-7 of the Fifteenth Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting.
