RIVER SCOTLAND

SALMON AND FRESHWATER FISHERIES

The River Awe Salmon Fishery District (Baits and Lures) Regulations 1991

Made 24th January 1991
Coming into force 11th January 1991

    The Secretary of State, on application to him by the River Awe District Salmon Fishery Board, having carried out all necessary consultations and complied with all necessary procedures as required by paragraphs 3, 4 and 6 of Schedule 1 to the Salmon Act 1986[1], as applied by section 8(5) of that Act (there being no representations or objections duly made with respect to the proposals in the application), in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 8 of that Act and of all other powxers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the River Awe Salmon Fishery District (Baits and Lures Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on 11th February 1991.
    Specification of baits and lures and area of application
        2.    Natural prawns and shrimps (whether fresh or preserved, dyed or natural colour) and any part thereof are, in relation to the River Awe salmon fishery district, specified for the purposes of the definition of "rod and line" in section 24(1) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951[2].

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations specify natural prawns and shrimps and any part of them for the purposes of the definition of "rod and line" in section 24(1) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951. They apply throughout the River Awe salmon fishery district for the whole of each year. The effect is to prohibit the use of natural prawns and shrimps (or any part of them) as bait when fishing by rod and line for salmon and sea trout.
