This Statutory Instrument has been made in consequence of defects in S.I. 1990/1772 and is being issued free of charge to all known recipients of that Statutory Instrument. STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS
NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE, SCOTLAND The National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) (No.2) Regulations 1990
1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) (No.2) Regulations 1990 and shall come into force on 1st October 1990 immediately after the coming into force of the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) Regulations 1990[2].
2.(1) The National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Scotland) Regulations 1974[3] shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation. (2) In regulation 19 (application for services) in paragraphs (1) and (2) after sub-paragraph (a) there is inserted in each case the following sub-paragraph:-
(3) In Schedule 1 (terms of service for dentists)-
"Referral for occasional treatment
(2) In referrring a patient under sub-paragraph (1) to another dentist or to a hospital or other service for that occasional treatment, the dentist shall -
(3) A dentist who accepts a patient referred to him under sub-paragraph (1) shall provide only the occasional treatment which, in the opinion of the dentist, it is necessary for him to provide having regard to the reason for referral." .
3. In regulation 19(5) of the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) Regulations 1990[6] for the words from "a complaint" to the end of the paragraph there are substituted the words a complaint or a reference which relates to treatment, as part of general dental services, begun before 1st October 1990 except to the extent that-
