Order made by the Secretary of State and laid before Parliament under section 32(4) of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978, for approval by resolution of each House of Parliament within 40 days after the day on which the Order was made, subject to extension for periods of dissolution, prorogation or adjournment for more than four days.

NORTHERN IRELAND

The Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978 (Amendment) Order 1990

Made 28th March 1990
Laid before Parliament 28th March 1990
Coming into force 29th March 1990

    Whereas, under section 21(4) of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978[1], the Secretary of State may by order add to Schedule 2 to that Act any organisation that appears to him to be concerned in terrorism or in promoting or encouraging it:
    And whereas it appears to me that by reason of urgency it is necessary to make this Order without a draft thereof having been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:
    Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21(4) of the said Act of 1978, I hereby make the following Order:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978 (Amendment) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 29th March 1990.
        2.    The following organisation, that is to say—

        "The Irish People's Liberation Organisation." ,
    is hereby added to Schedule 2 to the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978[2] (which specifies organisations which are proscribed organisations for the purposes of sections 21 and 25 of that Act[3]).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

    This Order adds the Irish People's Liberation Organisation to the proscribed organisations contained in Schedule 2 to the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978.
