EDUCATION, SCOTLAND

The Self-Governing Schools etc. (Scotland) Act 1989 (Commencement) Order 1990

Made 19th January 1990

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 81(2) of the Self-Governing Schools etc. (Scotland) Act 1989[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Self-Governing Schools etc. (Scotland) Act 1989 (Commencement) Order 1990.
        2.    The provisions of the Self-Governing Schools etc. (Scotland) Act 1989 listed in the following table shall come into force on 1st February 1990:-
    Provision Subject matter
    Section 67 Abolition of committee to consider pay and conditions of teaching staff employed in providing further education
    Section 69(1) and (2) Testing in primary schools
    Section 73 Educational services: extension of power of Secretary of State to make grants
    Section 74 Appointment of teachers
    Section 75 Dismissal of teachers
    Section 76 Remuneration of certain persons employed in providing school education
    Section 82(2) and Schedule 11 Repeals
    Schedule 10, paragraphs 1, 2 and 8(7), (9), (10), (11), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17), (18), (19), (20) and (21) Minor and consequential amendments

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note does not form part of the Order)
    This Order brings into force on 1st February 1990 the following provisions of the Self- Governing Schools etc. (Scotland) Act 1989:- section 67 - Abolition of committee to consider pay and conditions of teaching staff employed in providing further education; section 69(1) and (2) - Testing in primary schools; section 73 - Educational services: extension of power of Secretary of State to make grants; section 74 - Appointment of teachers; section 75 - Dismissal of teachers; section 76 - Remuneration of certain persons employed in providing school education; section 82(2) and Schedule 11 - Repeals; and Schedule 10, paragraphs 1, 2 and 8(7), (9), (10), (11), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17), (18), (19), (20) and (21) - Minor and consequential amendments.
    The following provisions came into force on the passing of the Act:- Part I; Part II except section 67; Part III except sections 69(1) and (2), 70, 72 to 76, and 82(2); Schedules 1 to 9; and Schedule 10 except paragraphs 1, 2, 8(7), (9) to (11) and (13) to (21) and 10.
