PENSIONS

The War Pensions (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 1989

Made 20th March 1989
Coming into force 1st April 1989

    The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 7(3) of the Pensions (Navy, Army, Air Force and Mercantile Marine) Act 1939[1] , and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the War Pensions (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 1989, and shall come into force on April 1989.
    Public Funds to include reference to community charge
        2.—(1)  In article 2(9) of the War Pensions (Naval Auxiliary Personnel) Scheme 1964[2] (meaning of "public funds" ) after the words "general or local Act" there shall be inserted the words "moneys provided under the Abolition of Domestic Rates etc. (Scotland) Act 1987[3]" .

        (2)  In article 2(26) of the War Pensions (Mercantile Marine) Scheme 1964[4] (meaning of "public funds" ) after the words "general or local Act" , there shall be inserted the words "moneys provided under the Abolition of Domestic Rates etc. (Scotland) Act 1987" .

        (3)  In article 1(10) of the War Pensions (Coastguards) Scheme 1944[5] (meaning of "public funds" ), after the words "general or local Act" there shall be inserted the words "moneys provided under the Abolition of Domestic Rates etc. (Scotland) Act 1987" .

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order makes amendments to various war pensions schemes consequent upon the abolition in Scotland from 1st April 1989 of domestic rates and their replacement by community charge.
