ROAD TRAFFIC

The Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) (Amendment) Regulations 1989

Coming into force 3rd April 1989

    The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 45(6) of the Road Traffic Act 1972 ("the 1972 Act" )[1] and now vested in him[2] and by the Department of Transport (Fees) Order 1988[3] , and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 199(2) of the 1972 Act, hereby makes the following Regulations -
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 3rd April 1989.
        2.    The Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) Regulations 1988[4] are hereby amended so that in the regulations specified in column 1 of the Table below for the amounts specified in column 2 of the Table there are substituted the amounts specified in column 3 of the Table.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend the Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) Regulations 1988 so that -
      (a) the fee payable on an application for a first examination or periodical test is increased from £25.25 to £26.50 in the case of a motor vehicle and from £14 to £14.50 in the case of a trailer;
      (b) the fee for a re-test or further re-test within 14 days after the first examination or earlier re-test and at the same station or at another auxiliary station by arrangement is increased from £13 to £13.50 in the case of a motor vehicle and from £7.50 to £7.75 in the case of a trailer. The fee for re-tests in other cirumstances is increased from £25.25 to £26.50 in the case of a motor vehicle and from £14 to £14.50 in the case of a trailer;
      (c) the fee payable on a request for an amendment to a plating certificate following a notifiable alteration or for a retest where a particular in the certificate is or may be no longer applicable is increased from £10.50 to £11; and
      (d) the fee payable on an application for a replacement for a lost or defaced plate or certificate is increased from £7.50 to £7.75.
