LEGAL AID AND ADVICE, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Legal Advice and Assistance (Financial Conditions) Regulations 1987

Made 9th March 1987
Laid before Parliament 16th March 1987
Coming into force 7th April 1987

    The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 1 and 20 of the Legal Aid Act 1974[1] , hereby makes the following Regulations:—
        1.—(1)  These Regulations may be cited as the Legal Advice and Assistance (Financial Conditions) Regulations 1987 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which they are approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.

        (2)  In these Regulations,"the Act" means the Legal Aid Act 1974.
        2.    For the weekly sum of £114 specified in section 1(1)(a) of the Act, there shall be substituted the weekly sum of £118.
        3.    For the capital sum of £800 specified in section 1(1) of the Act, there shall be substituted the sum of £825.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations increase the disposable income limit for the availability of legal advice and assistance under Part 1 of the Legal Aid Act 1974 from £114 to £118 a week and increase the disposable capital limit from £800 to £825.
