History of the CSYB

In 1935 the ’British Imperial Calendar and Civil Service List’ was first published by HMSO. It was subsequently renamed the ’Civil Service Year Book’ in 1974. It was produced on an annual basis at first, but changes in the Civil Service meant that the content became rapidly out of date so it is now published twice a year as a printed directory and online.

CSYB 42nd edition

Following the very successful relaunch of the CSYB in April 2003, the 44th edition has now been published. It contains an improved index and layout to ensure that it remains the essential one-stop reference tool for anybody looking for information on the structures and personnel in the Civil Service.
