1. This Order—
(a) is entitled the Bluetongue (Wales) (Compensation) Order 2007;
(b) comes into force on 22 October 2007;
(c) applies in relation to Wales.
2.—(1) Paragraph (2) applies where the Welsh Ministers cause any animal to be slaughtered under section 32 of the Animal Health Act 1981 as applied to bluetongue by article 13 of the Bluetongue Order 2003(3).
(2) The compensation payable by the Welsh Ministers in respect of the animal will be its market value immediately before it was slaughtered had it not been affected or suspected of being affected with, or had it not been exposed to the infection of, bluetongue.
(3) In this article, “animal” means a ruminating animal.

This Order makes provision for compensation to be paid in respect of an animal affected with, suspected of being affected with, or exposed to the infection of, bluetongue slaughtered under section 32 of the Animal Health Act 1981 (c. 22). The amount of compensation is the market value of the animal immediately before it is slaughtered, had it not been so affected, suspected of being affected or exposed to infection.
A regulatory impact assessment has not been prepared for these Regulations as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
