The National Assembly for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 1 of the Protection of Animals (Anaesthetics) Act 1954[1] and now vested in it,[2] after consultation with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and with such persons appearing to the National Assembly for Wales to represent appropriate agricultural interests, that appear to the National Assembly to be appropriate makes the following Order: Title, application and commencement 1. This Order is called the Protection of Animals (Anaesthetics) Amendment (Wales) Order 2003, it applies in relation to Wales and comes into force on 18th July 2003. Amendment of the Protection of Animals (Anaesthetics) Act 1954 2. In paragraph 6 of Schedule 1 (Excepted Operations) to the Protection of Animals (Anaesthetics) Act 1954 the words "in Wales, 8 days" are substituted for "in Wales, 4 weeks"[3]. Conditions that apply to the keeping of pigs are contained in the Welfare of Farmed Animals (Wales) Regulations 2001, as amended.
