TRANSPORT, WALES

The Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002 (Commencement) (Wales) Order 2002

The National Assembly for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 2(1)[1] of the Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002[2] hereby make the following Order:

Citation
     1. This Order may be cited as the Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002 (Commencement) (Wales) Order 2002.

Provisions coming into force in relation to Wales
    
2. The day appointed for section 1 of the Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002 to come into force in relation to Wales is 1st April 2003.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings all the substantive provisions of the Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002 ("the 2002 Act") into force on 1st April 2003 in relation to Wales.

Section 1(1) and 1(3) of the 2002 Act equalise at 60 the ages at which men and women are entitled to concessionary travel on local bus services under section 146 of the Transport Act 2000 or under schemes made under section 93 of the Transport Act 1985. These ages have already been equalised, in relation to Wales, by Articles 2, 3 and 5 of the Travel Concessions (Extension of Entitlement) (Wales) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/3765 (W.313) ("the 2001 Order") which came into force on 1st April 2002. Article 5 of the 2001 Order will be superseded by, and will cease to have effect as a result of, the coming into force, on 1st April 2003, of the 2002 Act by reason of this Order.

The provisions commenced by this Order in relation to Wales also come into force on 1st April 2003, in relation to England, under the Travel Concessions (Eligibility) Act 2002 (Commencement) (England) Order 2002 (S.I. 2002/673 (C.17)).
